🦋 IC Information

Character Name: James "Bucky" Barnes
Age: 20
Canon: Marvel Comics
Canon Point: April 1945, when captured by Zemo on an island along the English Channel. He is blown up by an experimental bomber plane.
Character History: Basic | Unabridged (Most important bit from the Unabridged version is the Early Years as previous origin stories have been retconned and I am following Ed Brubaker's version of his origin story)
Canon Abilities: Nothing super human. Within canon he was trained by British Special Air Services. He's skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. He's fluent in English, French, German, Japanese, and Russian.

He's an expert marksman with sniper rifles, assault rifles, pistols, and throwing knives. Bucky is also a skilled acrobatic and saboteur, and he has been trained as an interrogator by the British SAS, as well as interrogation-resistant.
Inventory: Outside of his laughable uniform, he's bringing his war diary.

🦋 Personality

Option 1:
  1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
  2. Bucky didn't believe in magic until he saw it for himself, and it was like all those cheesy sci-fi serials he loved had come to life. When it's working for him, it's thrilling. Nothing would surprise him after several years on the front lines of every weird, magical, and inhuman danger the war faces.

When magic is working against him, he confidently relies on his years of training and improvisation. But what he fears is his standing alongside his superhuman allies. Some magical teammates, like Namor, judge his capabilities, which pushes him to be reckless, to overcompensate, and to bite his tongue bloody before ever complaining. Some superhuman teammates, like Captain America, rely on him because of his normality. He cycles between resentment and pride in himself and those who are blessed by magic.

  3. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
  4. Big band is all a siren needs to reel him in. Something loud and high beat that has to be danced to. It doesn't need words, but anything crooned out by an older woman with a smoky, seductive voice is A++ will kiss her heels immediately.

Big band is what all the young men and women get up to in his time. It's how you socialize, it's how you show off your dancing prowess, and how you can meet a fast girl. The women he goes after are capable, competent women, who can hold her own. He can't help himself around strong women, especially if they are a redhead.

  5. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
  6. This would be Steve Rogers, Captain America. He first learned about him through film reels and was instantly dazzled. He instinctively knew that his specialized training was for the express purpose of fighting beside this man. He knew it in his bones. From then on, Bucky looked at Rogers like his older brother and his partner in crime.

He trusts Rogers with his life. The trouble is he doesn't believe anyone else can do the same for Rogers except him. Truth be told, he thinks Roger is a bit naive. If Bucky isn't there to vet his allies, keep an eye on his back, Rogers will fall for any sob story.

  7. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
  8. His anger. Bucky inherited his father's infamous temper. Coupled with the chip on his shoulder, and the need to be respected by his military peers, it is a dangerous cocktail. The audience meets Bucky in a holding cell at 16 after a fistfight with several military noncommissioned officers. Bloodied and reading a magazine, he couldn't be more content while waiting for someone to bond him out.

Bucky has written about this struggle in his war diary when reminiscing about his father. His father described a darkness in him, a devil on his back. It's the same burden Bucky carries. When his masculinity has been challenged or a friend insulted, he sees red. Bucky will fight just about anyone and won't stop until his opponent is sufficiently humiliated.
