Character information
Name: James Buchanan Barnes
Age: 20
Date of Birth: March 22
Canon: Marvel 616
Species: Werewolf. He's a very headstrong and violent individual. He's also prone to outbursts of anger.
Role: He's a Private First Class, NCO in the US Army. He's also a newborn werewolf without a pack or, well, anyone who really knows wth to do with him in America. He'd obv fit in best with the East End Pack and perhaps, as a military man, can become a protector/enforcer for the pack. He's also good with recon and interrogation work, too.
Rank: I think 1 would be fine! He's new to working with a strange team and dealing with a werewolf pack
Background: Born in Shelbyville, Indiana, Bucky's family is eventually relocated to the Camp Lehigh military base in New Jersey where his father instructs. As a military brat living on base, he spends a lot of his time emulating the enlisted men.
But despite this seemingly honorable goal, Bucky is a juvenile delinquent through and through with anger issues he inherited from his father. As a kid he was always picking fights with his peers and men bigger and older than him. His father would admonish him for his lack of control and unbridled aggression. However, it isn't long after feeling his father's disappointment that he dies in a freak accident during parachute training. Without a mother, who died years ago, his sister is taken to a boarding school and Bucky is left to remain on base out of respect for his father at the age of twelve.
For the next four years, he becomes the camp mascot and little brother. The trainees occasionally teach him marksmanship and combat training when they can. And while they take care of him, he strives to find ways to make himself useful. With his quick wit and short size, he becomes adept at sneaking out to the local town and smuggling in contraband for the base.
At eighteen, he enlists and serves in two tours in Iraq. But basic training couldn’t prepare them for what was ahead. The most unexplained things would happen, making soldiers question their commanding officers and their very religion. Talk of witches and undead become commonplace. Bucky collects plenty of these spook stories, each one less believable than the last. His closest encounter occurs at a dive bar still in operation by locals and within the occupation of US forces. He would say the other guy started it, but either way one little international squabble starts an entire brawl. They are forced to take control of the situation by any means necessary, leaving bystanders in jeopardy. This fear and anger lingering in the air becomes a potent mix that one in the crowd can't resist. The patron breaks his binds like tissue paper and launches himself at the handful of soldiers. Their bullets do nothing except wing other patrons, and eventually they call for back up. But it doesn't come until several soldiers have been savaged, Bucky included. By then, the creature is gone and all signs point to a drunken shit show. Command is going to call a court martial, they fear, but strangely nothing comes of it. Their tales of a giant beast seem to justify the lives taken.
No signs of a creature is every found, and most eventually think Bucky and his comrades are full of it to cover up their mistakes. But it isn't the first nor would it be the last strange occurrence. Field reports turn to tabloid fodder when a lieutenant has to explain to command that his squad put two rounds into a resistance fighter, and he only stopped getting up once four men held him down and PFC Barnes delivered the final blow by decapitating him. Soon after the regiment is relieved and sent home. But it isn't until the first full moon that command learns of the validity of that fight at the bar. Back home at Lehigh, Bucky and several others turn. It takes a skilled team to restrain and weaken them after making a meal out of their fellow soldiers. He's told none of what occurred, only that he has been changed. Afterwards, Bucky doesn't see any of the wounded or his comrades again. He and the others who've turned are taken off the books to be used in more creative ways.
What the US military knows of the supernatural and paranormal is defensive and offensive. They know how to weaken a werewolf, but they have no idea how to control one. So, they enlist the help of the Redbright Institute in order to find a way to control Bucky and those like him so they can be used as the Army sees fit.
Personality: Bucky is a boy in a mask, both literally and figuratively. As a child his mother died when he was an adolescent and his father was an instructor at a military base. It was up to him to be the anchor in the family for his little sister Rebecca. As Bucky refers to it, he had to wear a mask of bravery for her. That was his job, to be her clown and good-natured big brother that stood by her like a mother. The three of them stuck together to put on a good show for public that they were a stable, normal family. Of course, there is a darker side to Bucky outside his easygoing and extroverted personality.
Without ambitions of his own outside of keeping the family together and the stress it put on him, Bucky channeled his frustration, aggression, and the hot temper he inherited from his father into fighting. As he explains he was angry at the whole world. Always angry inside. The disappointment he brought his father stung and, while he could never break the cycle of violence, he always wanted to make his father proud of him. Unfortunately, the last thing his father ever said to him was an admonishment when he got caught fighting yet again. That same day his father died in a freak accident, leaving him all alone on a military base with his sister shipped off to a boarding school.
All he has left is his father's disappointment in him, a wayward attitude he can't escape, and his brave mask. For the next four years, Bucky latches onto the enlisted men in the camp for inspiration. He sees in them the path to manhood: aggression, a loud and mouthy attitude, the power to protect and defend their country and the people they love. He enjoys the military culture wholly and embraces it, finds pleasure in learning to fight, to defend and protect others. It earns him respect from the base population at large. And that respect is something he craves; he finds it through being useful.
That use, by definition, is certainly being stretched by the Army. As a child he never fit in with the rest of society. Loud and violent and ambitious, the Army was a way to distinguish himself, to show the world he was made for something special. During his tours, Bucky realizes just how insignificant and average he is against the weird and wild of the world. But now he's been given his chance as a werewolf, and his naive loyalty to his country is carrying him through his latest trials as a newborn pup. He is proud of what he is: strong and unstoppable. It's really everything he could have dreamed of as a kid. But the rope tightening around his neck from his country's ambition leaves him faltering at times. He would never say no, but it doesn't stop him from questioning.
Powers & Possessions: As a human, he's skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. Despite being young and small, he's learned how to take men down twice his size. Bucky also soaks languages up like a sponge and is fluent in French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Arabic.
He's a competent marksman with sniper rifles, assault rifles, pistols, and throwing knives.
Bucky is also a skilled acrobat and saboteur, which makes him an excellent recon scout. He's a badass monkey basically.
As a werewolf, his strength is likely 3 and then 4 in wolf form.
In terms of possessions, Bucky is allowed to carry a Beretta M9 semi-automatic off base. He also has his dog tags on him at all times. As for clothing, he has standard issue military fatigues and his service uniform.

Items:
Cosmic Cube
high level ♦ arcane/dark spellbooks
These Cosmic Cubes can manipulate time and space, thoughts, realities, etc. Within these cubes are traces of magical energy from the Fae world ripped out of rifts between the two worlds. The user of the Cube can warp reality as he or she sees fit; however, it doesn't always go according to plan. As the Cube ages it can create its own sentience that will deny certain users or morph wishes and realities into something darker or unexpected.
Only people with a high degree of magical skill (ranks 7-10) and purity can use it effectively. Anyone weaker (4-6) will have their best intentions twisted and perverted. Ranks 0-3 will be unable to even use it.
These items are exceedingly rare. Only a few have ever been made and most have been lost or destroyed. The last one on record caught the attention of Hitler in his zealous quest to collect occult artifacts. Despite extensive detailing and maps, it was never unearthed in Europe.
